search. If it is a person, go to Full Name. Be sure to enter the last name, followed by a comma and the first name.

Our Search Counter will help you to monitor the number of searches being made on your account.
To use the Search Counter effectively, there are just a few things you need to know:
- The search counter is found in the upper left hand corner.
- The first number (the number before the /) is the number of searches that
have been made on your account during this billing period.
- The second number (the number after the /) is the total number of searches
included in your current plan.
- The shading of the box is proportional to the number of searches made.
- Clicking on the search counter will give more details about the searches: who made them,
under what billing codes they are categorized, and how many searches remain on the account before
the Upgrade Point.
- Clicking a username, or the number of "searches this MONTH" provides a summary of what searches have been performed.
- In the section titled Current Subscription Period, you can upgrade your plan
for the next billing cycle, or view your account limit details. .

A wildcard is a character that substitutes for unknown characters. The Doxpop system recognizes two wildcards: the percent sign (%) and underscore (_).
- Use % for 0 or more unknown characters.
- Use _ for exactly one unknown character.
A wildcard can be used anywhere in a search term. This is especially useful when
using cause numbers to find a case. Cause numbers consist of several sections. The
last section is the sequence number, which may have up to five digits. Sometimes, zeros
are placed before the sequence number if it is fewer than five digits. Sometimes, they
are not. The case below can be entered more than one way:
38-C01-9103-IF-00012
38-C01-9103-IF-12
To search for this case, it is best to use a wildcard in place of any leading zeros in the sequence number. You may choose
not to put in the dashes; Doxpop does not "care" about dashes or capitalization.
For example: when trying to locate cause number 38-C01-9103-IF-00012, try searching for 38-C01-9103-IF-%12.
The percent sign will automatically pick up any leading zeros that may have been entered by the clerk's office.

- When you want to see your searches sorted by billing code, click on the search counter,
found in the upper left hand corner of your screen.

were made for each one.
- Clicking on the code names will tell you when the
searches were made and the name of the user who made them.

Your internet browser is the program you use to look at the internet. Examples include
Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. There are a number of Browser Shortcuts
-- keystrokes and other things that can speed up your work on any website.
Here are some helpful browser shortcuts:
- The tab key will move your cursor from one field (box) to another
when you are filling out forms.
- Use the Find function to find any word or phrase in a page. This is ctrl+F
(press the control key and the F key at the same time).
A dialog box or small search box will appear at the bottom of your screen.
- To copy text, simply highlight it and press ctrl+c. To paste
elsewhere, put your cursor where you want the text and press ctrl+v.
- You can have more than one web page in your browser at a time, if you use Firefox
or Internet Explorer 7. Press ctrl+T to make a new tab, then start browsing the internet.
To go back to your original page, simply click on your previous tab. You can have
multiple tabs open at one time.
- To open a link as a new page in a tab, press ctrl+click.
- To increase the size of the text on a web page, press control++. To decrease, press
control+-.
- To scroll down, use the space bar. To scroll up, use shift+space bar.
Are you a Mac user? The above tips will work for you. Use command instead of
control.

Why would I schedule a search with a date range? An example of when this feature could be
useful is if you were searching for a particular case type filed within a specific time frame.
For example, lets say you are searching for all Mortgage Foreclosure cases filed the previous week
within your county.
- First, log-in to the Doxpop system and click the court cases tab.
- Click go to advanced search to go to the advanced search page.
- Under Case Type select "MF: Mortgage Foreclosure".
- Select a Case Status if it is desired
- Select a File Date by selecting a time frame in the pull-down menu, or enter a specific date in the format of mm/dd/yyyy
- Select your desired county in the Search Region menu
- Click the Search button.
- When you have gotten your results, click the save search link on the right hand side.
- Give your search a name and/or description, and select the radio button that says "Email me the full results of this search every..."
- Select how often you would like this search to run
Please note that your account will be charged for a search when you receive your scheduled email.

From the Doxpop home page:
- To search by name or company - go to the Search Court Records box on the right side of the screen. In the area labelled Search by Party Name, type the
last name followed by a comma, a space, and the first few letters of the first name. For example,
typing in
Smith, Jo
would find all Smiths whose first names began with the letters J o.
- To search by cause number - go to the Search Court Records box on the right side of the screen and enter in to the area labelled Search by Case ID the cause number (or at least the first 7 characters).
From the Court Cases tab:
- To search by name or company - go to the Search bar in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Type the
last name followed by a comma, a space, and the first few letters of the first name. Ensure that Case Party is selected in the drop-down menu next to the Search button. Click Search. For example, typing in
Smith, Jo
would find all Smiths whose first names began with the letters J o.
- To search by cause number - go to the Search bar in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, enter the cause number (or at least the first 7 characters), ensure that Case ID is selected in the drop-down menu next to the Search button, and click Search.
Note: Cause numbers in Indiana can be broken down to various informational elements.
For example - the cause number 38-C01-9103-IF-00012 refers to Jay County (38),
Circuit Court 1 (C01), year 1991 (91), March (03), case type of infraction (IF), and it was the
12th (00012) infraction of that year. You may want to use the % wildcard in the last portion
(e.g., 38C019103IF%12) when searching for cause numbers because the
number of leading zeroes used can vary from county to county.

How to get there from the Doxpop home page:
Click on the "advanced search" link in the Search Court
Records box. At the top of the new page, click on the "improved advanced search" link.
The new advanced search has a number of fields, or boxes, in which to put information.
You do not have to complete all or even most of them. This allows you to use the information
that you DO have to your best advantage. For example, you might know the name of
an involved party, the type of case, and the county in which the case is located. Those three
pieces of information will probably find the case you want.
Here are all of the fields and ways to use them:
- Name: Enter the name of any person involved in the case, including lawyers and
judges. Put the last name first, followed by a comma and the first name if known. Remember that
wildcards can finish a partially typed name.
- Birth Date: If you know the person's birth date or a likely range in which
it would fall, enter the date mm/dd/yyyy or use the calendar to the right of the box (click on
the calendar. It has a ? in the corner for any questions you may have about how it works).
Many parties do not have birth dates entered, so you may also want to check the box next
to "include parties with no birth date".
- Drivers License: If you know the party's license number, enter it, but also consider
selecting "include parties with no drivers license", since they are not always entered.
- Party Role: What role does the person being searched for have in this case? If you
have entered the name of someone who is an attorney, but also is involved in a separate case as
a plaintiff, select "plaintiff" so you will not see all of the other cases in which the person is
involved.
- Cause Number: If you know the cause number for the case, enter it here.
- Case Type: If you are certain of the case type, choose it from the drop-down box. If
you don't know the specific type but do know whether it is criminal, civil or a citation, you can choose
"All Civil", "All Criminal" or "All Citiation".
- Cases Status: Is the case you seek open (pending some action by the court)
or closed? If you want both, choose "all".
- File Date: Choose a date or date range during the time the case was filed,
if you have this information.
- Disposed Date: If the case has been disposed, choose a date or date range
encompassing the time this would have occurred. Be aware that disposition dates are
occasionally not entered by courts. If you select a date or date range, you will miss
any cases that do not have dispostion dates entered.
- Search Region: Choose the region in which the case is located. This can be one
county, all Doxpop counties, or a custom region that you create
(see our Quick Tip about
Search Regions).

When a person is ordered to come to the court and does not, this is noted as a failure to appear. You might want to find out a person's past failures to appear if you were planning to assist that person in posting bail. This phrase may be found in the minute entries of the case. Here's how you can locate it:
- First, conduct a search for the person in question.
- For each case connected with the person in question, click on "Case Details" and then "Case ID"
- Read through the minutes of the case. If the minutes say Failed to Appear (or FTA, an abbreviation), the defendant did not appear at a time required by the court.
- To speed up this process, use your browser's "Find" capability (usually CTRL-F) to search the page for a key word such as "fail" and "FTA".
- Remember to go back in your browser to check the person's other cases for failures to appear.
- You may also wish to look for "Failure to Pay" (or FTP).

The following are many ways a genealogist might find needed information on Doxpop:
- Search for a person. If you are trying to track a
person down, Doxpop can help. When you click on the party details link next to the name
of interest, you may find any or all of the following: full name, address, and date of birth.
- Search for divorces: Doxpop's database is searchable by case code (for a list of codes, see Doxpop Tidbits). DR is
the code for domestic relations, a case type which includes divorces.
There are many recorded documents
that would be of interest to a genealogist.
The easiest way to find recorded documents connected to a certain person is to enter
that person's name in the search box at the top right of the Recorded Documents page and press
Search.
You will find all recorded
documents for that name. Click Details to see more about each document. The Document
Type will be written in the upper right area of the details screen. The following are types
that might be of interest to you:
- Some Cemetery Deeds, deeds for cemetery plots, are kept in a recorder's office.
These deeds can show whether a person has a plot in a certain cemetery and even which plot
that person has. If you would like to see all recorded deeds for a certain cemetery, put
the name of the cemetery in the Party Information: Organization field.
- Warranty Deeds are regular deeds to property. These can help you locate the
address of your relatives.
- Quit Claim Deeds are also of interest to a genealogist. A quit claim deed is filed
when one person gives up their part of the claim on a property to another person, who also
has a part of the claim. This is generally the case in a divorce, and would help determine
who retains the property.

Before you begin your search for foreign judgments, take a look at our County Court
Details Table. Not all counties make foreign judgments available electronically.
Once you have determined that the county in question does make foreign judgment data
available electronically, you can search for such data for a specific person:
- Conduct a search for the person in question.
- All cases in your search region related to that person, including foreign judgments, will
be retrieved.
- To specifically find foreign judgments, again refer to
the County Court Details Table. It will tell you what case code
the county in question uses (usually MI or FJ).
The Advanced Court Search page will allow you to search by case
type.

When looking at the details of a case, you may see a string of hyperlinked numbers. These numbers
link to Indiana Code, which will show what law is involved in
the case.
The four numbers of a citation refer to, in order: title, article, chapter, and section of the law.
You are most
likely to find them in the "Charge Records" box or in the minutes of the case.
If you click on the numbers, but nothing appears, this means either that the code has been
entered incorrectly or that the law has been repealed or recodified, and is no longer in current Indiana Code.
For example, all motor vehicle violations prior to 1991 refer to laws that have been repealed,
as all motor vehicle laws were recodified at that time.
If there are no numbers in the case details, this means that the Clerk of Court did not enter them,
and we cannot provide this information for you.

We strongly suggest that any organization that has more than one person using a single Doxpop
account create a separate username and password for each user. Because this is so important, we have
made it easy and free.
Multiple usernames
- Allow more than one person to use Doxpop at the same time
- Make users responsible for their own searches.
How do you add a user?
- Only an Account Administrator can add a user. Call us at 866-369-7671 if you don't know
who your administrator is.
- Click on the "My Doxpop" tab.
- In the blue navigation menu, under "My Doxpop Account", choose "Add a User".
- Enter the user's information and click [Done].
- When the new user first logs in, she will see a user agreement, and must agree to continue
with the sign-in process.
- The new user will also be asked to submit a security question and answer, to be used
in the event of a forgotten password or should she need help over the phone.

One of the biggest ways that Doxpop saves time and money for both clerks and
the general public is to dramatically reduce phone calls to clerk's offices.
People contact clerks for a variety of reasons. Checking for service, filings,
motions, and judgments are some of the most common.
All of the actions listed above are noted by the Court or Clerk in a
minute entry soon after they occur. This means that by using Doxpop to
check minute entries regularly or set a watch on a case, you can quickly
learn about actions on a case and respond in a more timely manner. Here
is how to do it:
To speed up this process, use your browser's "Find" capability
("[Ctrl]-F" in Internet Explorer or "/" in Firefox) to search the page
for a key word such as "service" or "filed".
If you are waiting for a particular event to occur but don't want to
check the case every day, you may want to
set a watch on the case.
By learning about actions involving your cases using Doxpop instead of a
call or visit to the Clerk's office, you save both yourself and the
Clerk time.

Setting up Recorded Document Folders can be performed by following this simple process:

The umbrella of "probate" can encompass several case types found in the Doxpop database. These include Estates (EU, ES, EM), Guardianships (GU), and Trusts (TR).
In many cases of these types a personal representative or executor is appointed by the court to manage and/or distribute assets, including satisfying debts.
Here is more about the Estate case types.
EU- Unsupervised Estate: In this type the personal representative acts to settle the affairs of a decedent without close supervision of the court,
reporting to the court within 90 days. This case type usually indicates that a clear, valid will exists, and those who have standing in the case (heirs and
creditors, for example) agree to forego the supervision of the court.
ES- Supervised Estate: Here the personal representative must seek approval of the court before selling or disposing of assets of the estate.
This case type may be assigned if there is no will, ambiguity in the will, or disputes among possible recipients of the assets. The court is the interpreter of the will
and the arbiter of disputes.
EM- Miscellaneous Estate: This type case does not, typically, involve a personal representative, and often indicates an estate with modest assets. A person paying
inheritance tax, asking for permission to open a lockbox, or performing other tasks related to a decedent (but not settling the estate and paying creditors) might open this
type of case.
